Biography of Curtis Sliwa
Early LifeCurtis Sliwa, an American anti-crime activist and talented radio host, was born on March 26, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York, into a Polish-Italian family. He attended Jesuit Catholic high school and later graduated from Canarsie High School and New York City Public High School.

Career Beginnings
Before founding the Guardian Angels, Curtis worked as a manager at a McDonald's restaurant in the Bronx. In 1979, he created the group Magnificent 13, which fought against violence and crime, particularly in the subway. As the city was experiencing a new wave of criminal activity, the organization became highly relevant. Magnificent 13 was later renamed as the Guardian Angels, receiving both negative and positive evaluations from the police, government, public, and media.
Controversies and Popularity
In the early 1980s, Curtis' organization gained recognition. However, in Buffalo, he stirred mixed reactions from the local police when it was revealed that some of the so-called solved crimes were fabricated to strengthen the organization's position and gain approval from society. Curtis confessed that Guardian Angels members only patrolled the neighborhoods in Manhattan. Despite these controversies, Curtis became popular and decided to try his hand in a new field.
Radio and TV Career
In the early 1990s, Curtis and his then-wife, Lisa Evers, became radio hosts on WABC in New York City. However, on June 19, 1992, Curtis was targeted for abduction. Although the kidnapping attempt was unsuccessful, it caused a major scandal. The perpetrator was identified as a criminal figure whose name Curtis had previously criticized publicly. Following the incident, Curtis' show was taken off the air.
Continued Success
However, Curtis eventually returned to both radio and television, continuing his career as a commentator. He is currently married for the third time and is raising his son, Anthony Chester.
