Damaris Evans: A Biography
Damaris Evans, a British lingerie designer, was born and raised in Notting Hill, London. Her family lineage boasts a line of creative professionals, starting with her great-grandfather, Sir William Rothenstein, an artist and former director of the Tate Gallery in London. It is no surprise, then, that Damaris developed a passion for the fashion industry from a young age.
As a teenager, Damaris not only studied garment construction but also began designing and creating her own clothing. She even dressed her family and friends in her exclusive creations. After completing her education, Damaris decided to further her studies and delved deep into women's fashion design at the renowned Central Saint Martins College in London.
During her course, Damaris had to find a placement where she could apply her newfound knowledge and skills. She chose to work at 'Favourbrooks,' a leading company in the production of exquisite evening, day, and wedding dresses. Favourbrooks embraced an eclectic mix of styles and forms. When her required three-month stint at the company ended, Damaris was offered a permanent position. She even got the opportunity to participate in the development of the company's first two fashion collections, one of which was showcased at the New York Fashion Week. This collection gained significant attention and put Favourbrooks in the spotlight. It was evident that Damaris had the potential to progress further in her career.
Utilizing her newfound experience, Damaris realized that with her practical knowledge and diploma, she was ready to start her own venture. After graduating from college, she had an incredible idea in mind. She wanted to fill a gap in the market and successfully create her own brand of sensual lingerie. The introduction of 'Damaris' lingerie caused a sensation and became a revolution in itself. Bursting with vibrant colors, bright buttons, an abundance of textures, and even Swarovski crystals, the 'Damaris' style became instantly recognizable.
Damaris Evans' talent and creativity could not go unnoticed. Many pieces from her collection have become iconic, such as the famous lace panties and the light organza set. Her avant-garde and designer lingerie, in contrast to the traditional lace and lycra, quickly disappeared from the shelves of Selfridges stores.
In 2003, her Spring-Summer collection earned her the victory at the Elle Style Awards in the category of 'Breakthrough of the Year.' The British brand of sensual lingerie, 'Damaris,' already has celebrity admirers, including Kirsten Dunst, Angelina Jolie, Claudia Schiffer, Liv Tyler, and many others.
