Biography of Damian Kulash
Damian Joseph Kulash Jr. was born on October 7, 1975, in Washington D.C., the District of Columbia. His great-grandparents immigrated to the United States from Poland, and at that time, their last name was spelled as "Kulas." In one of his podcasts, Damian claimed that one of his grandfathers invented modern fish sticks, but considering that this dish has been prepared in England for centuries, this statement seems more like a joke.

Damian attended St. Albans School and graduated in 1994. He then enrolled in Brown University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States, which is part of the Ivy League. In 1998, Damian graduated from the university with a degree in semiotics of art and received the university prize called the "Weston Prize" for his achievements in composition.

While studying at Brown University, Damian played in at least three bands - "A La Playa," "Calixto Chinchile," and "Square." In his final year of college, he released three CDs. The first included cover versions of Elvis Presley songs for his scientific project. The second CD featured several songs from his electronic pop group "Square." The third CD, titled "Appendices," included a collection of about a dozen recordings made in college, including solo performances, performances with friends, class performances, studio experiments, and old recordings of previous bands. It was on this CD that the song "Bye Bye Baby" first appeared, which was later re-recorded with the band "OK Go" as a record release, and four songs from the unfinished punk album by "A La Playa" were also included.

After graduating from university, Damian moved to Chicago, where he co-founded the band "OK Go" with bassist Tim Nordwind in 1998. They gained attention from various events and appearances on the radio program "This American Life" and eventually signed a contract with Capitol Records. Under this label, they released three albums: "Ok Go," "Oh No," and "Of the Blue Colour of the Sky."
Damian and Tim have known each other since childhood when they spent summers together at a camp for creatively gifted children. They stayed in touch over the years, discussing the possibility of forming their own band. Today, the four members of "OK Go" are known not only for their music but also for their distinctive fashion sense, collecting colorful vests and quirky accessories. They have gained popularity through their internet music videos. The music video for their song "A Million Ways," shot in a backyard, cost the band around ten dollars. This disco-style dance parody was filmed using a camera borrowed from a friend, which was set on a tripod, causing the dancers to occasionally go out of frame. The choreography for the video was directed by Damian's sister, who also planned the treadmill dance for the video "Here It Goes Again," which was recognized as one of the most creative videos of 2006.
In 2005, Damian married his longtime girlfriend, an artist and a graduate of Brown University. They now reside in Los Angeles with their two dogs. In August 2006, Damian appeared on an episode of "The Colbert Report," hosted by actor Stephen Colbert, where they discussed "OK Go's" method of distributing their music videos on YouTube instead of relying on professional companies for shooting and distribution. In April 2010, the band returned to "The Colbert Report" and performed their song "This Too Shall Pass" on air.
On February 9, 2010, "The New York Times" published a review by Damian, in which he discussed the relationship between musicians, record labels, and the internet. He also published an article on net neutrality in the same newspaper in 2008 and another article on ska in 2005.
