Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Taras Topolia was born and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine. His musical journey began at the tender age of six when he picked up the violin and joined the choir of the Revutsky Male Choral Capella. While attending Kyiv Secondary School No. 48, he formed a band that would later evolve into the renowned "Antitila."
Education and "Antitila"
Alongside his musical endeavors, Topolia pursued higher education at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, graduating with a degree in law in 2007. During this time, "Antitila" and Topolia participated in the Ukrainian singing competition "Shans," gaining recognition from renowned musician Kuzma Skryabin.
In 2008, "Antitila" signed with the production company "Catapult Music." However, in 2010, they made the decision to depart from the label and placed their management in the hands of band keyboardist Serhiy Usyk and Topolia himself.
Musical Career
Taras Topolia serves as the co-founder and frontman of "Antitila." As a key songwriter and performer, he has spearheaded the band's success. In 2017, "Antitila" embarked on their масштабный "Sun" tour, spanning over 50 Ukrainian cities, Belarus, the United States, and Canada. The tour's reach garnered "Antitila" an entry in the National Register of Records of Ukraine for their remarkable achievement.
Topolia also paid tribute to Skryabin by performing his hit song "People Like Ships" at a memorial concert. The rendition captivated audiences, leading Topolia and "Antitila" to record a studio version featuring Skryabin's backing vocalist, Olga Lizgunova. The band's discography includes acclaimed albums such as "Buduwudu," "Vybyray," "Nad Polyusamy," "Vse Krasivo," "Solntse," and "Hello."
Social Activism
In 2014, Topolia and his friends embarked on a volunteer mission, establishing the "Free YUa" Charitable Foundation. The foundation has raised over 8 million hryvnias in support of Ukrainian military personnel and civilians.
As a UNICEF Youth Ambassador in Ukraine, Topolia has led over 100 meetings with young people nationwide. He initiated and supported the "Ukraine Exist" exhibition at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, showcasing Ukrainian resilience.
Awards and Recognition
Topolia's contributions have been lauded with several prestigious awards, including the Order "For Merits" 3rd Degree in 2019.
Personal Life
Taras Topolia is married to singer Olena Topolia (known as Alyosha). Together, they have two sons, Mark and Roman, and a daughter, Maria.
