Early Life and Career
Daniel Edward "Dan" Aykroyd was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on July 1, 1952. He was born with two birth defects: syndactyly, a rare condition where fingers are partially fused, and heterochromia iridum, causing his eyes to be different colors (right eye green, left eye brown).

SNL Years and Rise to Fame
Aykroyd originally aspired to become a priest before attending Carleton University to study criminology and sociology. However, he dropped out and pursued entertainment. He performed in various comedy sketches before joining the cast of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) as a writer and performer in 1975.

Blues Brothers and Beyond
During his four-year run on SNL, Aykroyd showcased his versatility and comedic genius. He created memorable parodies of Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, Rod Serling, and others. His friendship with John Belushi led to the formation of The Blues Brothers, a musical duo that released several albums and toured together.

Comedy and Film Success
After leaving SNL, Aykroyd starred in several comedy films, collaborating with Belushi in three of them. He wrote the role of Peter Venkman in "Ghostbusters" specifically for Belushi, but it was eventually played by Bill Murray after Belushi's passing.

Writing and Producing
In addition to acting, Aykroyd has written and produced many films. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in "Driving Miss Daisy" in 1989.
