Early Life and Basketball Career
Dane DeLiegro was born on August 6, 1988, in Lexington, Massachusetts, USA. Raised with his brother Ross and sister Dara, DeLiegro inherited Italian ancestry from his father and Jewish heritage from his mother. Influenced by their father, the DeLiegro brothers played basketball from a young age. However, Dane's true passion lay in photography and riding mopeds, and he never fully aspired to become a professional athlete.
In his senior year of high school, DeLiegro joined the University of New Hampshire Wildcats basketball team, where he played for four years. In 2009, he represented the United States at the Maccabiah Games in Israel, earning a gold medal. Concurrently, DeLiegro pursued a degree from New York University, graduating in 2011.
After college, DeLiegro played professionally in Italy for various clubs, including Ostuni, Sassari, Sardinia, Thiesi, Siena, Verona, and Forlì. He also had a stint with Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel. In 2019, DeLiegro retired from basketball and embarked on a new chapter in his life.
Transition to Acting
DeLiegro relocated to Los Angeles and began studying acting at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. His impressive physical attributes (6'7" and 245 lbs) landed him roles that required extensive makeup, prosthetics, and costumes.
In 2020, DeLiegro made his on-screen debut in episodes of "The Walking Dead" and "Sweet Home." He portrayed a muscular monster in "Sweet Home" and featured in a commercial for Xbox's Halo series as Master Chief, directed by Taika Waititi.
Film and Television Success
The following year, DeLiegro appeared in "American Horror Stories," a spin-off of the popular anthology series "American Horror Story." He played the Fear Patrol in the second episode and portrayed the demon Baal in the fifth episode.
DeLiegro's career gained momentum in 2022, with roles in "Monsters of California" and the adventure series "The Quest." He also featured as an alien overlord in Doja Cat's music video "Get Into It (Yuh)" and joined the cast of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," scheduled for release in 2023.
'Prey' and Critical Acclaim
DeLiegro's most significant role to date is the title character in the science fiction film "Prey," a prequel to the "Predator" franchise. Set in the 1700s among the Comanche Nation, the film follows the arrival of an extraterrestrial monster.
Director Dan Trachtenberg designed DeLiegro's Predator to be leaner, more vulnerable, and with a more human-like physique. However, the alien hunter remained technologically advanced and possessed its trademark ferocity and cunning. "Prey" was a critical success, and DeLiegro's performance earned widespread praise.
Personal Life
Despite previous rumors, DeLiegro has denied being in a romantic relationship with singer Paula Abdul. He enjoys spending time with his family and doting on his nieces and nephews.
