Daniel Correa Freitas: A Tragic Loss
Early Life and CareerDaniel Correa Freitas, known simply as Daniel, was born on January 24, 1994, in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. He began his football career with Cruzeiro and played for Botafogo from 2013 to 2015.
Recent Career
Daniel joined São Paulo, one of Brazil's most successful clubs, in 2018. However, he had spent the previous two years on loan to Ponte Preta and São Bento. In 2018, he made only two appearances for São Bento.
Tragic Death
On October 27, 2018, Daniel was found dead in bushes in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná. His body was reportedly severely disfigured, with almost complete decapitation and mutilation of his genitals. Local police declined to provide further details.

São Paulo expressed their condolences, stating, "We mourn the loss of Daniel and extend our support to his friends and family at this difficult time." São Bento "joined in thought with the family and friends of the player" during this time of profound sadness.
Other Notable Football Deaths
Daniel's death followed the tragic loss of William Gomis, a 19-year-old former reserve defender for French club Saint-Etienne. According to SunSport, Gomis was killed in a shootout in La Seyne-sur-Mer, Toulon, along with a 14-year-old teenager who later died en route to the hospital.
