Dan Girardi is a professional hockey player who has represented both Canada and Italy as a defenseman. Currently, he plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Early Career and Success
Girardi's hockey career began in Ontario, where he won two J. Ross Robertson Cups in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL): with the Guelph Storm in 2004 and the London Knights in 2005. He also captured the Memorial Cup as part of the London Knights in 2005.
Undrafted to New York
Despite his impressive accomplishments at the junior level, Girardi went undrafted in the NHL Entry Draft. On July 1, 2006, he signed a contract with the New York Rangers as a free agent. Over the next 11 seasons, he became a cornerstone of the Rangers' defense, known for his physical play and shot-blocking abilities.
