Biography of Daniel Noboa
Early Life and EducationDaniel Noboa was born on November 30, 1987, in Miami, Florida. Raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, he is the son of businessman Álvaro Noboa and physician Anabella Azín. Noboa received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from New York University's Stern School of Business in 2010. He later earned an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in 2019, a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University in 2020, and a Master's in Political Communication and Strategic Management from George Washington University in 2022.
Business Career
Noboa launched his own event management company, DNA Entertainment Group, at the age of 18, leveraging his family's wealth. He also held positions at his father's banana exporting company, Noboa Corporation, including Director of Shipping and Director of Commerce and Logistics. In October 2023, Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo reported that Noboa owns two offshore companies in Panama, as revealed by the Panama Papers.
Political Career
Noboa was elected to the National Assembly in the 2021 parliamentary elections, representing Santa Elena for the United Ecuador political movement. He became president of the Economic Development Commission, where he promoted tax and investment laws. His political ideology has been described as centrist or right-of-center.
In March 2023, following the government's rejection of an investment law, Noboa expressed support for the activation of the "muerte cruzada" (cross-death) mechanism. On May 17, 2023, President Guillermo Lasso invoked the "muerte cruzada," dissolving the National Assembly and terminating Noboa's term as a legislator.
Presidency
Noboa announced his presidential candidacy in May 2023, representing the "National Democratic Action" political movement. With Verónica Abad Rojas as his running mate, he campaigned on promises to create jobs, reduce taxes for entrepreneurs, and increase penalties for tax evasion. His program focused on attracting foreign investment and developing Ecuador's business sector, adopting a neoliberal approach while still supporting public works projects to create jobs.
After placing second in the August 2023 first round, Noboa faced Luisa González in the October 15 runoff election. He won with 52% of the vote, becoming the second-youngest president in Ecuador's history (and the second-youngest head of state in the world).
Personal Life
Noboa married Gabriela Goldbaum in 2018, with whom he had a daughter. They later divorced. In 2019, Noboa met social media influencer Lavinia Valbonesi, whom he married in 2021. They have a son and are expecting their second child in 2024.
