Biography of Daniel Pelka
Daniel Pelka, a 4-year-old child, died from a head injury in March 2012. It is believed that he was starved to death by his parents. The investigation into his death is currently ongoing. His mother, 27-year-old Magdalena Luczak, and stepfather, 33-year-old Mariusz Krezolek, both originally from Poland, admitted to mistreating Daniel. However, they deny being involved in his death or creating unbearable living conditions for him.

Signs of Neglect
When Daniel first started school, he had a fashionable hairstyle and a neat school uniform that fit him perfectly. However, before the tragic events unfolded, it seemed that the boy was simply fading away. Lonely and emaciated, Daniel would wander around with his hands in his pockets in a constant search for food. Witnesses described him as looking like a "bag of bones," "a starving victim from Africa," or "a prisoner from a concentration camp." His eyes were sunken, his skin had a pale, almost transparent color.

Teachers' Observations
Lisa Godfrey, Daniel's teacher at Little Heath Primary School in Coventry, said that the boy was so thin that he resembled a "cancer victim." Beatrice O'Brien, an assistant teacher, witnessed Daniel rummaging through a trash bin on the playground, eating apple and pear cores. On the same day, Daniel took an empty yogurt container from a bin in the classroom and scraped out the last remaining droplets. In another instance, Daniel sneaked into Godfrey's classroom and devoured half of a cake that was meant to be shared among 15 people. Godfrey reported these difficulties to the school's administration and had a conversation with Magdalena Luczak.
Signs of Abuse
One day, Daniel showed up at school with bruises on his neck. Godfrey was deeply concerned because she knew how volatile Daniel's mother could be. She even suspected that Luczak might have been strangling her son. The next day, Daniel had bruises under his eyes and a scratch on his nose. Between September 14, 2011, and March 2012, Daniel missed 28 and a half days of school.
Tragic End
On March 3, 2012, an ambulance team responding to a call at Daniel's home found the child unconscious. Daniel weighed no more than 10 kg. Attempts to resuscitate him were in vain, and Daniel was pronounced dead at the University Hospital Coventry. A doctor later stated that, in her 19 years of practice, this was the worst case of malnourishment she had ever seen.
Revelations of Cruelty
After Daniel's death, some disturbing facts about the "unexplained cruelty" of Luczak and Krezolek came to light. There are reports that they forcibly fed Daniel salt and kept him locked in his tiny bedroom, akin to a prison cell, where he was starved. They removed the doorknob so that the boy couldn't escape unless they allowed it. Fingerprints of Daniel were found on the door where the doorknob should have been. When the parents were offered a consultation with a pediatrician, they declined three times. Nutritional supplements for Daniel's healthy growth and a medication to eliminate parasites from his body were found untouched by the police.
