Early Life and Family
Daniel Delorme was born into a family of artistic talent. Her father, André Girard, was a renowned painter and a master of propaganda posters during the French Resistance. Her brother, Guy Delorme, achieved fame as a French actor and stuntman.
Acting Career
With her natural talent for music, Daniel Delorme initially pursued a career as a pianist. However, it was the allure of cinema that ultimately captivated her. She studied acting alongside Gérard Philipe at the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique in Paris.
Her film debut, under the name "Daniel Girard," came in 1942 in the movie "La belle aventure." However, it was her portrayal of the title role in the 1948 adaptation of Colette's novel "Gigi" that brought her widespread recognition.
Stage and Screen
Beyond her cinematic achievements, Daniel Delorme was also a successful stage actress. She briefly served as the director of the Comédie-Caumartin theater. In addition to her acting career, she ventured into film production, establishing the company "La Guéville" alongside her second husband, director Yves Robert.
Personal Life
In 1945, Daniel Delorme married actor Daniel Gélin, with whom she shared a son named Xavier. Their marriage ended in 1954 due to Gélin's affair with German model Maria Christina Schneider. Their son, Xavier Gélin, also became a renowned actor before tragically succumbing to cancer in 1999 at the age of 45.
Later Years
Daniel Delorme continued to appear in films and television shows throughout her life. She played prominent roles in the comedy films "Un éléphant ça trompe énormément" (1976) and "Nous irons tous au paradis" (1977), both directed by her husband Yves Robert.
She served as a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988. Daniel Delorme passed away on October 17, 2015, leaving behind a legacy as a talented actress and a pioneer in French film and theater.
