Early Life and Family
Darby Eliza Camp was born on July 14, 2007, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Clark and Lacy Camp. She has an older sister named Ruthie. Darby's paternal grandfather was a veteran who passed away before her birth, and she was named after him.
Her mother, a former actress, exposed Darby to the world of entertainment from a young age. She began taking her daughters to auditions and commercials, and eventually into feature films as they grew older. Graduating from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Darby's mother performed with professional children's theater groups before appearing on screen.
While Ruthie initially had aspirations of being an actress, she later transitioned to basketball, following in the footsteps of her father, an assistant basketball coach at North Mecklenburg High School. Darby, however, developed a deep passion for acting. By age 5, she had already worked on her first project, and by 6, she was making her television debut.
Acting Career
Darby made her acting debut in the series "Door to Door" alongside her sister and mother. Through her mother's connections, she landed roles in "Drop Dead Diva" and "The Leftovers." She also starred in the feature-length drama "Benji."
In 2016, Darby joined the cast of "Big Little Lies," which became her breakthrough role. At the time, she had no idea who Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman were, but her parents were thrilled for her. Kidman, who had won numerous awards for her portrayal of Johnny Cash's wife in "Walk the Line," mentored Darby throughout filming and provided valuable professional advice.
The following year, through her father, Darby became part of "Dreamland," which starred her favorite actress, Margot Robbie. She also auditioned for "The Christmas Chronicles" alongside Kurt Russell and Judah Lewis, saying, "I love working on Christmas movies because I feel like I just get to have this really long Christmas season with magic and fun! It usually involves family, and I love our cast and crew—it's like having a second family while I'm away."
Darby's filmography also includes "Grey's Anatomy," "The Christmas Chronicles 2" (which faced criticism for "lacking some of the original's magic"), and "Christmas on the Square."
Personal Life
Outside of acting, Darby is an avid animal lover and enjoys spending time with her parents, sister, grandmother Nana, friends, and pets. She has cats named Toccoa and Georgia, named after geographical locations, and dogs named Marty McFly and Stan Lee, after the character from "Back to the Future" and the legendary comic book creator, respectively.
Darby is also athletic, playing sports like basketball, soccer, swimming, and riding skateboards and bicycles. She is passionate about volunteering and has participated in missionary projects in Haiti.

In 2021, Darby appeared in several projects, including "Clifford the Big Red Dog," "Calm Before," and "3:35 to Boston," where she once again shared the screen with her mother. She also landed a role in the star-studded series "Gaslit," alongside Sean Penn, Julia Roberts, Dan Stevens, Alexandra Erinn Hayes, and others.
