Biography of Daria Volga
Daria Volga, a famous actress and TV presenter, has had a life that many girls dream of: starring roles in popular TV shows, invitations to film in different countries, a loving and wealthy husband, and her own house on the oceanfront. However, these achievements did not come to Daria by magic. She earned several degrees, including in other countries, mastered the English language, and even composed music and painted.
Early Life
Daria Volga was born in Kiev, Ukraine on June 19, 1974. Her mother, Valentina Plotnikova, was a leading actress at the Franko Theater. Her father, Vladimir Volga, came from a family of professional artists and was skilled in drawing. Daria's older brother, Yaroslav, taught her to draw, while her mother would often take her to the theater and give her paper and pencils during performances and rehearsals.
Move to Moscow
In 1985, after the tragic events of the Chernobyl disaster, Daria's family moved to Moscow. Valentina Plotnikova became an actress at the Sovremennik Theater. However, her career at Sovremennik was short-lived. When the Franko Theater offered her a role in a major tour, she resigned from Sovremennik without hesitation and went on to perform with her former colleagues. After returning, Valentina decided to enjoy the role of a housewife. It was during this time that the first signs of her cancer, which ultimately took her life in 2002, began to appear. Despite her parents' desire for her to become a musician, Daria dreamed of studying at a theater university. She attended a regular school and a music school, and played tennis.
Acting Career
In 1991, Daria applied to the admissions board of the Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), where Armen Dzhigarkhanyan was teaching. However, she only made it to the second round of auditions and was advised to attend classes as a non-degree student. After the first semester, several spots opened up on the course and Daria became a full-fledged student at VGIK. She graduated with a red diploma in 1995.
While still in her second year at VGIK, Daria made her film debut, playing Dunyasha in "The Cherry Orchard" (1993). The following year, she appeared in the Belarusian film "Provincial Flowers" and the popular TV series "Petersburg Secrets." However, after working with director Todorovsky on the film "What a Wonderful Game" (1995), Daria did not receive any new offers. Determined not to sit idle, she decided to broaden her horizons and went to England to study English at business courses organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During her time in England, she developed a serious relationship with a man named Andrey Franchuk, an IT specialist from Kiev. In 2000, they got married and decided to move to New Zealand after successfully passing the embassy's tests. Daria enrolled in the directing department at the University of Auckland and received her master's degree in 2003. That same year, she gave birth to her son Anton Joseph, nicknamed AJ.
Artistic Pursuits
While in New Zealand, Andrey worked as a software developer and started his own international company. Meanwhile, Daria continued to pursue her artistic endeavors. She performed on stage in English in plays such as "The Tempest," "The Cherry Orchard," "Commedia dell'arte," and acted in films such as "Rude Awakenings," "Hey, Dude," and "Beyond the Ocean," which received awards for "Best Film" and "Best Actress" at a festival in the United States. Daria also taught acting and professionally pursued painting. Many of her paintings are now in private collections in New Zealand, the United States, and Europe.
Return to Moscow
In 2005, Daria returned to Moscow and appeared in the TV series "Emergency Room 2," which was well-received by audiences. She also found success in the popular TV series "Tatiana's Day" (2007), for which she composed the theme song herself. In the film "I Love a Married Man" (2008), where Daria played the main character, the artist Larisa, her own paintings were featured along with her song, which she performed with her co-star Dmitry Kharatyan. In 2007, Daria held a personal exhibition of her paintings in Moscow. She also took on notable roles in other Russian TV series, such as "Yefrosinya" (2007-2013), "The Healer 2" (2008), and the mystical series "Angel or Demon" (2013).
In 2008, Daria briefly hosted the popular TV show "Let's Get Married" on Channel One, but left as soon as she felt the show's style was becoming more scandalous and sensationalist. Constant long-distance flights became a regular part of her life. In 2013, Daria and her family, except for her son Andrey Franchuk Jr., who works as a sales manager in Auckland, moved back to Kiev. There, Daria participated in the filming of the comedy series "Curious Varvara 2" (Alena Slutskaya) and also worked on the series "Bosman Chaika" and "Zemsky Doctor 2."
