Hannah attended Maria Tallchief's ballet school during her school years and also played soccer on a boys' team. After completing high school, she studied at the University of California in Los Angeles and received her degree. She further honed her skills in dramatic arts at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and under the guidance of Stella Adler in New York.

Early Career
In 1981, Hannah made her debut in the film industry with a small role in "Hard Country." However, before portraying a mermaid in "Splash," she made a name for herself by brilliantly playing the role of an acrobatic silent replicant in Ridley Scott's film "Blade Runner" (1982).
