Daryl Katz: Chairman and CEO of Katz Group
Daryl Katz is the Chairman and CEO of Katz Group, a prominent pharmaceutical company in North America. Prior to his successful career in the business world, Katz was a former lawyer. He attended the University of Alberta, where he obtained both a Bachelor's degree and a law degree. Throughout his life, Katz has maintained a strong connection to his alma mater, as evidenced by his significant financial contributions to the university. In October 2006, he donated a substantial amount of $25 million, marking the largest donation in the history of the University of Alberta.
Entrepreneurship and Success
Today, Katz dedicates a significant portion of his time to Katz Group Canada Ltd., which operates a vast network of pharmacies and distributes pharmaceutical products under various brands. Some of these brands include Guardian, Herbie's for Drug and Food, I.D.A., Medicine Shoppe Canada, Meditrust Pharmacy, Pharma Plus, Rexall (including Rexall Pharma Plus), and Super Drug Mart. Additionally, the company owns subsidiaries such as Drug Trading Company Limited (retail sales) and ProPharm Limited (pharmacy computer systems).
Over the years, Katz's company has undergone various mergers, acquisitions, and incorporations, ultimately establishing itself as a leading player in the pharmaceutical market. However, Katz's pursuits extend beyond entrepreneurship and the pharmaceutical industry. He is also an avid hockey enthusiast. In recent years, Katz fulfilled his dream by becoming the owner of the "Edmonton" hockey team, which he acquired for $200 million. He hopes to receive the long-awaited approval from the NHL and take a more hands-on approach in managing the team. Katz plans to build a new stadium and establish a board of trustees to assist him in managing the club.
