Early Life and BackgroundDauren Kurugliev was born on July 12, 1992, in Derbent, Dagestan, Russia. As a Lezgin by nationality, he inherited a passion for wrestling from his family. His uncle, Magomed Kurugliev, was a bronze medalist at the 2005 World Wrestling Championships, while his cousin, Kamil Kurugliev, represented Kazakhstan.
Early Career and Achievements
Kurugliev's talent became evident at a young age. Mentored by renowned coach Magomed Dauruten Atakulov, he joined the "SSHOR im. Gamida Gamidova" sports school in Makhachkala. In 2016, he graduated from the Physical Culture Faculty of the Chuvash State Pedagogical University.
Kurugliev's rise to success was marked by numerous accolades. He became the Russian National Champion in 2018 and 2020. In 2017, he captured his first European title in the 86 kg weight class. Two subsequent European Championship victories in 2023 and 2024 solidified his dominance in the continental arena. He also triumphed at the 2019 European Games.
International Recognition
In 2016, Kurugliev achieved the prestigious title of Master of Sports of Russia International Class. His exceptional performance on the world stage earned him a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Representation of Greece
In April 2023, Kurugliev made a remarkable decision to represent Greece. Competing in the 86 kg weight class, he stormed to victory at the European Championships in Zagreb, dethroning defending champion Myles Amine.
