The Man Who Ate His Own Finger
The AmputationDave Playpenz, a bondage equipment maker from Colchester, Essex, lost his index finger in a motorcycle accident in his early thirties. Surgeons had to remove the finger and part of his hand after the tissue blackened.
The Request
Instead of leaving the amputated body part at the hospital, Playpenz asked for it to be wrapped up for him after his surgery. For a while, the finger sat in the same refrigerator where the nurses kept their tea milk.
The Curiosity
Playpenz had always been curious about what human flesh tasted like, but it was taboo. So, he decided to satisfy his curiosity by eating his own finger, since he was unlikely to face any repercussions for doing so.
The Execution
Despite how it may sound, Playpenz insists his act was one of simple curiosity. He waited a couple of days after the surgery before carrying out his plan. He boiled the finger in salted water and ate it plain, without any sauce or wine, in order to experience its true flavor.
The Aftermath
Playpenz kept the bones in a box and said the reaction from his friends was mixed. Some were disgusted, while others were intrigued. The experience did not turn Playpenz into a Hannibal Lecter, and he has no plans to repeat it.
