Biography of David Yong Choi
David Yong Choi is an American musician of Korean descent who was born in 1986 in Anaheim, California, United States. His parents, who owned a music store called 'Grace Store', also had Korean roots. His father, like David himself, was a musician in his youth. Growing up surrounded by musical instruments, it was inevitable that David would develop a passion for music. He learned to play the piano and violin from a young age, although he initially preferred playing outside with friends or video games rather than studying music.
However, his strict parents ensured that he continued his musical education. Eventually, David had a change of heart and realized that music wasn't so bad after all, especially pop music. His first musical interest was the rock band 'Smash Mouth', which led him to start listening to the radio. He later developed an interest in jazz and classical music. He started playing the guitar, imitating the band 'Blink 182', and eventually joined the school orchestra, where music became his favorite subject.
While he abandoned the violin, David continued to play the piano, now with a focus on jazz. He enjoyed the freedom and improvisation in jazz music. He started composing his own music and soon won his first prize in a performance competition. With the help of the program ACID Pro, Choi began creating digital music and in 2004, he won first prize in the 'Mashup' contest of David Bowie.
Following this success, David's career took off rapidly. He appeared in 'USA Weekend Magazine' alongside Usher and won another prize at the 'John Lennon Songwriting Contest'. He eventually signed a contract with Warner Chappell Music. In October 2008, he released his album 'Only You', which featured original songs and covers. A couple of years later, David released his second album, 'By My Side', which included bonus tracks and was released in special editions in Korea.
David's popularity on YouTube was truly impressive, with over 9 million views and almost a million subscribers. He has also toured extensively, performing in cities such as San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Washington DC, New York, Boston, Chicago, as well as Vancouver and Toronto in Canada.
David Choi writes, plays, and performs his own songs, and also acts as a producer for them. His heartfelt love songs have gained a dedicated following, particularly among young girls who become avid fans after hearing just one or two of his compositions.
