Early Life and ExplorationAs a native of New York City, born on November 28, 1946, David Doubilet developed a profound connection with the ocean at a tender age. At summer camp in the Adirondacks, he embarked on his first underwater adventure at the age of eight. By twelve, he had begun experimenting with his first underwater photographs using a Brownie Hawkeye camera encased in an inflatable rubber bag that resembled a miniature submersible.

Doubilet's unwavering passion led him to pursue diving and photography at Sandy Hook Marine Laboratories in New Jersey during his school years. He spent countless hours exploring the depths of the Caribbean Sea, honing his skills and developing an exceptional eye for capturing the beauty and wonder of the underwater world.
