Early CareerBorn in Georgia, the former Soviet Union, as a skilled engineer, the chess composer began his illustrious career in 1970. Since then, he has published over 200 etudes, of which an impressive 90 have received prizes, including 34 first place honors.
National Success
The composer's exceptional talent was recognized domestically through his triumphs in the Soviet Union's personal championships. He emerged victorious in the 13th (1981) and 16th (1985) editions, while securing a second-place finish in the 12th (1976) and 14th (1983) tournaments.
World Champion
The pinnacle of the composer's career came in 1998 when he claimed the World Championship in Chess Composition for the etude category. His remarkable reign extended until 2000. In subsequent world competitions, his etudes earned him two prestigious bronze medals.
