David K. Levine: Economist and Educator
Early Life and EducationDavid K. Levine was born in the United States. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1977, followed by a Master of Arts in Economics in 1977 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1981.
Academic Career
Levine began his academic career as a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1981. In 1987, he became an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Minnesota, and later a Professor of Economics at UCLA in the same year. He held the Armen Alchian Professorship in Economics at UCLA from 1997 until 2006, when he joined Washington University in St. Louis as a Professor of Economics.
Research and Publications
Levine's research interests include intellectual property, endogenous growth, endogenous preferences, social norms, institutional formation, learning in games, and game theory applied to experimental economics. He has published extensively in leading academic journals such as "Abstracts of Working Papers in Economics", "Journal of Economic Theory", "Economic Theory", "Review of Economic Dynamics", and "Econometrica".

Levine is a past president of the Society for Economic Dynamics (2006-2009).
