Early Life and Education

David Alan Koechner was born on August 24, 1962, in Tipton, Missouri, to Margaret Ann (née Downey) and Cecil Steven Koechner. His father was of German descent, while his mother had Irish roots. Koechner has two brothers and three sisters.

After graduating from Tipton High School, Koechner studied political science at Benedictine College and then the University of Missouri. However, he soon dropped out to pursue a career in comedy.

Stand-Up and Improv

Koechner moved to Chicago and joined the iO Theater, where he studied improv under the legendary Del Close. He also performed with The Second City comedy troupe.

Television and Film Career

In 1995, Koechner made his television debut on "Saturday Night Live," where he appeared in 20 episodes over the next year. He made his film debut in 1997 in "Wag the Dog."

Koechner has since appeared in nearly 120 films and television shows, including "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Talladega Nights," and "Anchorman." He has also written three screenplays and produced two films.

Awards and Recognition

In 2005, Koechner was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for Best Musical Performance for his role in "Anchorman."

Personal Life

Koechner married Leigh Koechner on June 27, 1998. They have five children: Charles Patrick, Margo Grace, twins William Sargent and Audrey Violet (born 2006), and Eva Juliet (born 2011). The names of his wife and children are tattooed on his right shoulder.
