Early Life and Education
Thomas Conti, a renowned Scottish actor, theatre director, and author, was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire. Raised in a devout Catholic household, he identifies as an atheist today. Conti attended St. Aloysius' College, a private Catholic school in Glasgow, and later pursued his acting studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Theatrical Career
In 1959, Conti made his stage debut. In 1979, he graced the Broadway stage in the play "Whose Life Is It Anyway?" As a director, Conti helmed productions such as Neil Simon's "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers" and Noel Coward's "Present Laughter."
Television and Film
Conti boasts an extensive television resume. He starred in the TV adaptations of Frederic Raphael's "Glittering Prizes" and Alan Ayckbourn's "The Norman Conquests." Notable appearances include the children's series "The Fairy Tale Theatre" ("The Princess and the Pea"), "Friends," and "The Cosby Show." In the mid-1990s, he collaborated with Nigel Hawthorne in a series of commercials for the Opel Astra automobile.
