David O. Russell is an American film director and screenwriter who has gained tremendous popularity in recent years. He was born in New York on August 20, 1958. Despite having a Jewish father and a Catholic mother, David was raised in an atheist household.

After graduating from prestigious Amherst College in 1981 with a degree in political science, David lived in Boston where he taught literature and actively participated in the labor movement. His passion for cinema began in his childhood, and he spent many years dreaming of a career as a director. He started by writing screenplays in his free time and later began making short films.

David's cinematic experiments were successful, and he was offered an internship at the PBS studio in Washington. In 1987, he directed a short film called "Bingo Inferno" based on his own screenplay. This work received a grant from the New York Film Council and convinced David that he should pursue filmmaking professionally.
