David Schwimmer is an American actor and director, best known for his role as Ross Geller in the television series "Friends." He was born on November 2, 1966, in New York City, USA, to Arthur Schwimmer and Arlene Coleman, both lawyers. Soon after his birth, he moved with his family to Los Angeles.


Schwimmer attended Beverly Hills High School, where he participated in many plays, including "The Diary of Anne Frank." After completing his theater studies at Northwestern University, he co-founded the theater company "Lookingglass" and an association of actors, writers, and directors.


Schwimmer gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of paleontologist Ross Geller in the television series "Friends." He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1995 for Outstanding Actor in a Television Series for this role. In addition to "Friends," he has appeared in films such as "Wolf" and "Six Days, Seven Nights."
