Education and Early Career

Deb Schulte earned her post-secondary education in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University. Prior to entering politics, Schulte spent twenty-two years working in management at Bombardier Aerospace, a division of the Canadian aircraft and spacecraft manufacturer.

Political Career

From 2010 to 2014, Schulte served as a regional councillor in the city of Vaughan, Ontario. Prior to being elected to Parliament, she was the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of National Revenue.

In 2015, Schulte was first elected as a Member of Parliament for the Liberal Party of Canada. She was re-elected in the 2019 election. In the same year, Schulte was appointed Minister of Seniors by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She succeeded Filomena Tassi, also a Liberal Party member.

Defeat and Later Developments

In the snap election of September 20, 2021, Schulte lost her bid for re-election with 42.9% of the vote, narrowly losing to Conservative candidate Anna Roberts. On October 26, 2021, Trudeau's newly sworn-in government appointed Kamal Khera as the new Minister of Seniors.
