Deborah Gibson, an American pop singer, was popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. At the age of seventeen, she became the youngest woman to write, perform, and release a song that topped the "Billboard Hot 100" chart. The song, titled "Foolish Beat," earned her the well-deserved crown from her idol, George Michael, whom she had originally asked for help with releasing the track but was declined. Gibson's success led to her appearing on the covers of American teen magazines like "Tiger Beat." She also starred in several musicals, including Broadway productions, independent films, and television series.
Early Life
Gibson was born in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of five, she began performing in a local theater alongside her sisters and wrote her first song, "Make Sure You Know Your Classroom." When she was eight, she sang in a children's choir at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. During this time, she also started playing the ukulele and later took piano lessons from renowned American pianist Morton Estrin.
Music Career
At sixteen, Gibson started actively pursuing record labels and soon released her first hit. During a mini-tour of nightclubs across the country, she accumulated enough material for her debut album, "Out Of The Blue," which became incredibly successful. Five songs from the album occupied top spots in the American charts. In 1988, Gibson was entrusted with performing the national anthem at one of the World Series games. Her subsequent albums were also well-received, although her popularity gradually declined by the mid-1990s. However, even in 2005, Gibson released a new song titled "Someone You Love," which received a special PBS award and an Emmy nomination.
Theatrical Career
Starting from 1992, Gibson began performing in musicals, including the Broadway production of "Les Misérables" and, later, the lead role in "Grease" in London. The standalone release of the song "You're the One That I Want" from "Grease" reached the top twenty on various British charts.
