Early Life and Artistic Talents

Debra Mullins was born in New York to a family with mixed German and Irish roots. When she was four years old, Mullins' parents moved the family to New Jersey. Growing up, Mullins and her three sisters were all blessed with artistic talents. Initially, Mullins dreamed of becoming a singer, but her sister Kate had a much better voice and even performed with a choir at Carnegie Hall. Feeling overshadowed, Mullins decided to only sing in the privacy of her own shower. The other two sisters were passionate about drawing, although they did not achieve great success in that field.

Language and Writing

Realizing that a career as a struggling artist was not appealing to her, Mullins decided to focus on her language skills, which she believed could pave the way for a successful career. In school, she excelled in Spanish, French, and Italian. After finishing high school, she spent a summer in France and Italy as part of an exchange program. To become a professional translator, Mullins needed to learn another language besides English. However, at the beginning of her college education, she met someone who would become the love of her life and decided to marry him.

A Debut Novel and Success

After several years of married life, Mullins remembered her success in winning literary contests during her school years. In seventh grade, she had written a hundred-page novel about a Spanish pirate. She retrieved her old writings and got to work. The revised manuscript, titled "Once a Mistress," was entered into the Romance Writers of America contest and made it to the finals in the Golden Heart category. Two years later, the novel was published by Avon Books. Since then, Mullins has published fourteen more novels, highly acclaimed by critics and readers alike. Her works have been translated into several languages, including Russian. Most of her novels belong to the historical genre, especially those set during the Regency era, but Mullins also explores paranormal themes. Her latest novel, the mystery thriller "Prodigal Son," was released in 2013.

Recognition and Personal Life

Currently, ten of Mullins' novels are available to readers in Russia, published by AST. Her debut novel, "A Necessary Bride," received many positive reviews, praising the witty dialogues, charming pirate-gentleman characters, and bold heroines. Her historical romance novel, "Two Weeks with a Stranger," and her love detective novel, "By the Law of Passion," also received high ratings. Mullins currently resides in California with her husband. She believes their marriage is ideal in terms of sharing household responsibilities, as she hates cooking, while her husband enjoys it. Mullins considers herself an internet enthusiast and actively engages with her fans and friends on social media and her own website. Her literary sketch contests on specific themes are particularly popular. Additionally, Mullins keeps an online diary to document her weight loss journey.
