Bank Robbery by Her Own Son
On June 25, 2013, Dee Ann Sanders was charged with the robbery of Bank of America on June 18 at 4:10 p.m. She was scheduled to appear before the U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids. The FBI stated that a resident of Michigan called the police and provided information about the recent bank robbery. After reviewing the surveillance footage from the bank, which captured the suspect, he recognized his own mother as the perpetrator. He also informed law enforcement officers about her whereabouts, providing them with her home address. Sanders was located by the police at the specified address, approximately a mile away from the bank, and she immediately confessed to the crime.
The Robbery Incident
On June 18, 2013, Sanders approached the teller counter, where she spent a few minutes seemingly filling out a withdrawal slip. She then passed a note demanding $2,500 for her children and grandchildren. She received $1,092 and promptly fled the scene. Surveillance cameras captured a middle-aged woman wearing a bright red t-shirt with a large American flag on the front, who was identified as the suspect. After distributing photographs of Sanders, her son and several other individuals recognized her, leading FBI Special Agent Adam Van Deuren to initiate criminal proceedings. Sanders was subsequently apprehended.
Confessions and Personal Struggles
During her confession, Sanders emphasized her problems with her husband, which led to her addiction to crack cocaine.
