Biography of Denis Ivanov

Denis Ivanov is a Latvian footballer and defender who has represented the Latvian national team from 2005 to 2013. He was born in Liepaja and began his football career at a young age, playing for his hometown club "Metallurg".

Club Career

Ivanov made his debut for the first team in 2001 and spent nine seasons with the club, playing 187 matches and scoring 9 goals. He served as the captain of the team and gained recognition for his solid defensive skills. In July 2009, Ivanov went on a trial with the Amsterdam-based club "Ajax" and there were talks of a potential transfer. However, he eventually joined the Cape Town "Ajax" in South Africa, which serves as a feeder club for the Amsterdam team. Ivanov became the first Latvian footballer to play in the South African Premier Division. He later signed a three-year contract with the Cape Town "Ajax" in August 2009. Ivanov then moved to the Turkish club "Sivasspor" in July 2010, signing a two-year contract. He made his debut in a victorious match against "Galatasaray" but later lost his place in the starting lineup due to an injury. In July 2011, Ivanov joined the Azerbaijani club "Baku" along with Maris Verpakovskis and coach Alexander Starkov. He later moved to the Romanian club "Botosani" in February 2014.

International Career

Ivanov made his first appearance for the Latvian national team in December 2005 in a match against Thailand. He became a regular member of the team in 2007 and scored his first international goal in a friendly match against Andorra in March 2008. Ivanov was appointed as the captain of the national team for the first time on June 19, 2010. He represented Latvia in various international competitions, including the Baltic Cup.
