Biography of Dev Patel

Dev Patel, a British actor of Indian descent, was born in Harrow, London, England in 1990. His parents, Anita and Raj Patel, immigrated to England from Kenya as teenagers and met each other in London. Dev spent his childhood in Harrow and later attended Longfield Middle School.

Early Acting Career

Dev Patel got his first role in a school production of "Twelfth Night, or What You Will". The jury awarded him the prize for "Best Actor" and advised him to consider a future career as an actor. One of his teachers recalls, "He was a talented student who impressed me with his versatility as an actor."

Interest in Martial Arts

In his teenage years, Dev developed a passion for Eastern martial arts and achieved significant success in practicing Taekwondo and Karate.

Breakthrough with "Skins"

In 2006, Dev's mother saw an audition notice for the TV series "Skins" in a local newspaper and encouraged him to audition. After two auditions, he was cast in the show. The creators of the series were so impressed with Dev that they had to make some changes to the plot. "Skins" premiered in January 2007 and won several awards, including the BAFTA Television Awards and The Rose d'Or.

Success with "Slumdog Millionaire"

In 2007, Dev landed his first film role as Jamal Malik in "Slumdog Millionaire", directed by Simon Beaufoy.
