Diane Lebouthillier is a prominent Canadian politician and public servant known for her dedication to her community and unwavering support of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Early Life and Education
Born on February 5, 1959, in the small town of Newport, Quebec (now part of Chandler), Lebouthillier spent her formative years in Gaspé, the hometown of her parents. She pursued a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Moncton, laying the foundation for her future career as a social advocate.
A Life of Service
For over 23 years, before venturing into politics, Lebouthillier served as a social worker and customer service manager at the Roche Percé Health and Social Services Centre in Chandler. It was there that she forged a valuable partnership with future Member of the National Assembly of Quebec, Georges Mamelonne. In 2010, she was elected Prefect of the Municipality of Le Rocher-Percé.
Electoral Success and Ministerial Appointments
In 2015, Lebouthillier embarked on her federal political career by running for the Liberal Party in the Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine riding. She emerged victorious, securing 38.73% of the votes and unseating incumbent New Democratic Party MP Philip Toone. On November 4, 2015, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed Lebouthillier as Minister of National Revenue, a position she has held consecutively since the 2019 parliamentary elections, where she was reelected in her constituency.
