A Mother's Courage: Defying Cancer to Save Her Unborn Child

Diagnosis and Dilemma

At the age of 30, Diane Mulyneux's life took a dramatic turn when she was diagnosed with two life-threatening tumors. Her doctors advised terminating her pregnancy to proceed with life-saving surgery for her cervical cancer.

Hope Amidst Despair

Faced with an impossible choice, Diane defied the odds. She refused an abortion and sought the expertise of Dr. Jonathan Herod at Liverpool Women's Hospital. Dr. Herod proposed an innovative surgery, the first of its kind, that offered hope for both Diane and her unborn child.

Groundbreaking Surgery

In the 11th week of her pregnancy, Diane underwent a groundbreaking surgery to remove the tumors and the majority of her uterus. The surgery was a success, and Diane's cancer went into remission.

A Miracle Born

Three months later, Diane gave birth to her daughter, Nancie, via C-section at 33 weeks. Weighing just over two kilograms at birth, Nancie was a testament to her mother's unwavering strength.

A Legacy of Hope

Today, Diane and her partner, Nicky Dures, are advocates for cancer research in the UK. Their story serves as an inspiration to all who face life's challenges with resilience and determination.
