Biography of Dmitry Kesayan (Kesayants)

Dmitry Gagikovich Kesayan (Kesayants) was a filmmaker born in Yerevan. He was born in 1945 and grew up working in a collective farm from 1945 to 1949. After completing his education at a pedagogical school in Yerevan in 1950, Kesayan pursued a career as an actor at the Theater for Young Spectators.

Kesayan's passion for filmmaking led him to pursue further education at the directing department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow. In 1963, he successfully graduated from the directing faculty under the guidance of renowned filmmaker G. Kozintsev.

From 1962 to 2001, Kesayan worked as a director at the Armenian Film Studio ("Armenfilm"). Throughout his career, he directed several notable films including "Inspiration" in 1975, "Soldier and Elephant" in 1977 (a comedy), "Car on the Roof" in 1980, "Fire" in 1983, and "The Rider They Await" in 1984.

Dmitry Kesayan's films were known for their unique storytelling and artistic vision. He was recognized for his ability to capture the essence of Armenian culture and history, often incorporating elements of humor and drama in his work.

Sadly, Dmitry Kesayan passed away on April 14, 2001, in Yerevan, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional filmmaking. His contributions to the Armenian film industry continue to inspire and influence aspiring filmmakers to this day.
