Early Life and Education

Dmytro Yarosh was born in Dniprodzerzhynsk, Ukrainian SSR, on September 30, 1971. He graduated high school in 1988 and claims to have engaged solely in nationalist activities since then.

Nationalist Activism and "Tryzub"

In February 1989, Yarosh joined the People's Movement of Ukraine. From 1989 to 1991, he served in the Soviet Army. In 1994, he co-founded the far-right nationalist organization "Tryzub" named after Stepan Bandera. He led its regional branch, became a member of the central committee in 1996, and served as its leader from 1996 to 1999.

2000-2013

After stepping down as leader of "Tryzub," Yarosh held various positions within the organization before becoming its first deputy leader during the Euromaidan protests. In 2001, he graduated from the philology faculty of Ivan Franko Drohobych Pedagogical University. He is the author of several books on nationalism and revolution.

"Right Sector"

In November 2013, "Tryzub" formed the basis for the creation of the "Right Sector," a far-right paramilitary organization that became a significant player in the Euromaidan protests. Yarosh became its leader, vowing to "overthrow the regime" and "carry out a national revolution."

The "Right Sector" gained notoriety for its violent clashes with police and security forces during the protests. They also played a role in protecting demonstrators and organizing actions.

Presidential Candidate

Yarosh declared his intention to run for President of Ukraine in the 2014 election. As a candidate, he advocated for a "socially-oriented state with an effective market economy" and vowed to combat Russian "neo-colonialism." He received only 0.70% of the vote.

Political and Military Activities

After the election, Yarosh was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament). He has served as Deputy Head of the Committee on National Security and Defense and Advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Yarosh and the "Right Sector" have played a significant role. He has criticized the government for its handling of the crisis and called for the arming of civilians.

Statehood Initiative of Yarosh

In November 2015, Yarosh resigned as the leader of the "Right Sector." In February 2016, he launched a new movement called the "Statehood Initiative of Yarosh."

Personal Life

Yarosh is married and has five children. He is known for his outspoken views and his willingness to use violence to achieve his political goals.
