Childhood and Early Life
Dmitry Ivanovich Usik was born in 1932 in a village in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. Music was a constant presence in his childhood home, with his sister playing guitar and his father mandolin. The war years were particularly difficult for Usik, as his father went to the front and his village was occupied by the Germans. After the war, he graduated from school and joined the navy.
Military Career
Usik served in the navy for decades, receiving his lieutenant rank on the Pacific Fleet. Despite his military duties, he always found time for his passion for music and singing. After retiring with the rank of colonel, he settled in southern Moscow and continued to pursue his musical interests by joining a vocal studio in a local social center.
"The Voice. 60+"
In 2019, Usik decided to audition for the second season of the popular vocal project "The Voice. 60+". His soulful rendition of "Lonely Accordion" left all the judges in awe, and he became one of the most memorable contestants.
