Early Life and Education
Isaak Antadze was born in the village of Vardzia, Georgia, on October 11, 1900. In his early years, he studied at the G. Jabadari Theatre Studio in Tbilisi. Later, he became a student of the renowned Georgian director Kote Marjanishvili.
Early Career and Theatrical Collaborations
Antadze began his career as an assistant director in 1920. From 1925 to 1927, he served as a director at the Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli Theatre. In 1928, he became the head of the Tbilisi Young Spectators' Theatre.
That same year, Antadze played a key role in the establishment of the 2nd State Drama Theatre in Kutaisi (now the Tbilisi Academic Theatre named after K. Marjanishvili). From 1928 to 1933, he directed productions at this theatre alongside K.A. Marjanishvili. In 1930, the theatre was relocated to Tbilisi.
Artistic Leadership and Directing Achievements
From 1933 to 1938, Antadze served as the artistic director and director of the 2nd State Drama Theatre. He went on to hold similar positions at the Kutaisi L. Meskhishvili Theatre (1938-1952), the Tbilisi A. Griboyedov Russian Drama Theatre (1952-1957), and the Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli Theatre (1957-1962).
As a director, Antadze staged numerous acclaimed productions throughout his career.
Later Years and Legacy
From 1962 to 1974, Antadze presided over the Theatre Society of Georgia. He received the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1971.
Isaak Antadze passed away in Tbilisi on April 18, 1978, and was buried in the Didube Pantheon. His contributions to Georgian theatre left an enduring mark on the country's cultural landscape.
