Dolly Cherukuri, India's Youngest Archery Record-Breaker
An Exceptional TalentAt just two years of age, Dolly became India's youngest girl to score over 200 points in an archery competition. While most children her age are grappling with dressing themselves or uttering basic words, Dolly's remarkable achievement set her apart.
The Record-Breaking Journey
Nine days shy of her third birthday, Dolly exhibited her sharp shooting skills, earning 388 points in the Indian Book of Records. She shot 36 arrows from a distance of 15 feet (4.5 meters) and another 36 from 21 feet (6.5 meters).
A Family Legacy
Dolly's archery talent is not entirely surprising given her family's background. Her father, Satyanarayana Cherukuri, runs an archery academy, while her late brother, Lenin Cherukuri, was an international archer and coach who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2011.
Nurturing the Passion
Dolly's father recognized her potential early on. He created lightweight carbon fiber arrows to minimize the strain during her practice sessions. "We shouldn't put too much pressure on kids, and they can train for a maximum of two to three hours a day," said Satyanarayana. "But Dolly comes from an archery family and is capable of more."
India's Rich Archery Tradition
India is a nation with a strong archery tradition and has produced numerous record-breaking archers. Dolly's achievement is a testament to the sport's continued popularity and the dedication of aspiring athletes.
