Singer, Announcer, and Entrepreneur
Donna Burke is a singer, announcer, and private entrepreneur. She was formerly a teacher in Perth before leaving her job and pursuing a career in singing. In 1996, she moved to Tokyo, where she currently resides with her husband, guitarist Bill Benfield.
Versatile Singer
Having trained in classical singing for ten years, Burke now performs in concerts featuring genres such as jazz, rock, techno, classical, and folk music. Her talent has earned her the recognition as "one of the most versatile singers on the planet" in reviews. Her latest album, "Blue Nights," was released in 2005 and includes many of her old songs, including "Don't I Look Pretty" and "Quiet Night."
Other Projects
Apart from her singing career, Burke has also released three solo albums, a compilation of Celtic music, and has provided voice acting for various anime series, including Turn-A Gundam, Haibane Renmei, Vandread, Tokimeki Memorial, Tales of Legendia, and Final Fantasy. She has also lent her voice to several video games, including Shenmue, Silent Hill, and various OVAs such as Strange Dawn, Hoshi no Koe, Trip Trek, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's. Additionally, Burke has appeared as a lyricist in many Japanese advertisements, anime, and J-POP music groups.
Well-Known Voice
In Japan, Burke is well-known for her voice as the guide on the Tokaido shinkansen super express train line since 2003. Her voice can also be heard at Narita Airport and as an English-speaking guide at the Emperor Showa Memorial Museum. Since 1999, Burke has worked as an announcer for NHK, narrating various documentary films and reading bilingual evening news. She also provided the voice for "Climate in Crisis - Part 1," which won the Silver Medal at the New York Television Festival and the EARTH VISION AWARD at the Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival in 2007.
Entrepreneurial Endeavors
In 2004, Burke founded the agency Dagmusic for foreign singers, composers, and musicians living in Tokyo. Besides Dagmusic, she also dedicates her time to Hotteeze, a company she created to sell Japanese heat pads worldwide.
