Her father left the family when Doris was still a child, and she was raised by her mother, with the help of her grandparents and stepfather, Chester Roberts. She grew up in the Bronx, New York.

Doris began her acting career in 1952, when she appeared in the television series "Studio One." She also appeared in other television projects such as "The Naked City" (1958-1963), "Way Out" (1961), "Ben Casey" (1963), and "The Defenders" (1962-1963). In 1961, she made her film debut in "Something Wild."

Film Success

In 1968, Doris Roberts starred in the films "A Lovely Way to Die" and "No Way to Treat a Lady," showcasing her exceptional acting skills. She then appeared in the cult film "The Honeymoon Killers" and in 1971, she starred in three films - "Such Good Friends," "Little Murders," and "A New Leaf."
