Biography of Dorothy Janis
Dorothy Janis, born as Dorothy Penelope Jones, was an American silent film actress. She was born in 1910 (or 1912 according to other sources) in Dallas, Texas, USA. With the support of a relative who worked at the Fox Film Corporation, Dorothy managed to enter the film industry, and in 1927, she had the opportunity to play in her first films, during the era of silent cinema. Her beauty, exoticism, vibrance, and liveliness appealed to many producers, but unfortunately, her career was very short-lived.
Early Career
Dorothy Janis gained recognition for her notable work in the film "The Pagan" in the late 1920s, where she starred alongside Ramon Novarro. However, her last role came in 1930 in the drama "Lummox," based on Fannie Hurst's book.
Personal Life
After her acting career, Dorothy Janis married musician Wayne King, and together they lived for over half a century until his death in 1985. William H. Stein, the Vice President of the Music Corporation of America, served as their wedding usher. The couple had two children, a daughter named Penelope "Penny" and a son named Wayne.
Late Life and Death
Dorothy Janis lived to be 100 years old and passed away on March 10, 2010. Although there are some discrepancies regarding her birth year, ranging from 1910 to 1912 in different sources, it is known that she spent her final years in Paradise Valley, Arizona. She was laid to rest at the All Saints Episcopal Church Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.
