Doug Fieger: An American Music Icon

Doug Fieger, the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the American band The Knack, was destined for musical success from a young age.

Early Influences and "Sky" (1968-1971)

Born on August 21, 1952, in Coolidge, Michigan, Doug Fieger's childhood was shaped by his upbringing in a small town near Detroit. As a high school student, he formed his own band, "Sky." Jim Miller, a renowned producer for legendary groups like The Rolling Stones, Traffic, and Blind Faith, took notice of Sky in its early stages. Under Miller's guidance, Sky released two successful albums in 1970 and 1971.

The Knack and "My Sharona" (1979)

In 1979, Doug Fieger's career reached its peak with the formation of The Knack. Their debut album, "Get The Knack," went triple platinum in the United States and sold over six million copies worldwide. The album's lead single, "My Sharona," became a massive hit, spending six weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Fieger dedicated the song to a woman he was dating at the time, describing her as "a free spirit who lived life to the fullest."

Continued Success and Later Projects (1980-2001)

The Knack continued to release successful songs, including "Good Girls Don't" and "She's So Selfish." They released a total of six studio albums, with the last one, "Normal As The Next Guy," coming out in 2001.

In addition to his work with The Knack, Doug Fieger had several successful solo projects. He sang on two tracks for The Tornadoes' 1983 album "Born to Laugh" and contributed the song "Dirty Girl" to Bruce Kulick's "BK3" album.

Health Struggles and Legacy (2005-2010)
