Musical Beginnings
Jason Bonham, born in Dudley, West Midlands, England, is the son of legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. He first appeared on screen in the concert film "The Song Remains the Same" alongside his father, drumming on a miniature kit.
Early Career and Collaborations
At 17, Bonham joined the band Airrace. He then played drums for Virginia Wolf and participated in two albums and a US tour with the group The Firm. In 1988, he contributed to Jimmy Page's solo album "Outrider" and the subsequent tour. He also made a notable appearance at Led Zeppelin's 40th Atlantic Records anniversary concert in New York City.
Bonham's Own Band and Guest Appearances
In 1989, Bonham formed his own band, Bonham. Their debut album, "The Disregard of Timekeeping," featured the moderately successful hit single "Wait for You." After the disappointing reception of their 1992 album "Mad Hatter," the band disbanded. Bonham subsequently focused on session work and guest appearances, including collaborations with Paul Rodgers, Slash, and Motherland.
Led Zeppelin Reunion
In 2007, three surviving Led Zeppelin members reunited for a one-off concert at the O2 Arena in London. Jason Bonham, who had played with Plant and Page in the past, was unanimously chosen as the drummer, with Page specifically noting that Bonham knew every Led Zeppelin song and all its live variations. The concert received rave reviews, solidifying their status as legendary performers.
Black Country Communion and Other Projects
In 2010, Bonham joined forces with Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, and Derek Sherinian to form Black Country Communion. Their debut album, released in 2010, garnered mixed reviews. Bonham has also collaborated with other artists, such as Joe Bonamassa in 2006 and the Great Divide in 2012.
Personal Life and Legacy
Jason Bonham has represented his father in several events, including Led Zeppelin's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He has also released a solo album dedicated to his father's compositions. Bonham's prodigious drumming skills and deep knowledge of Led Zeppelin's music have earned him the respect and admiration of musicians and fans around the world.
