Dragoje Brašnić: The Pioneering Croatian Goalkeeper

Born in Zagreb, Dragoje Brašnić made his mark as the first goalkeeper of the Yugoslav national team. He represented Yugoslavia in the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games.

Club Career

Brašnić played for the Zagreb-based club Građanski, contributing to its early successes. In 1923, he became the first goalkeeper to win the Yugoslav Championship with Građanski.

International Debut and Legacy

Brašnić debuted for Yugoslavia in 1920 at the Olympic Games, featuring in a 0-7 loss to Czechoslovakia. He remained the primary goalkeeper through 1924, playing a total of seven matches and conceding 35 goals. His last international appearance was also a 0-7 defeat against Uruguay at the 1924 Olympic Games.

Personal Life and Legacy

Beyond football, Brašnić worked as a draper. He passed away at the age of 53 in Zagreb due to tuberculosis. Brašnić's contributions as the first goalkeeper of Yugoslavia established him as a pioneer in Croatian football history.
