Early Life and Youth CareerMatías Fernández, born in Buenos Aires to an Argentine mother and a Chilean father, relocated to La Calera, Chile at the age of four. Breakthrough at Colo-Colo
In 2004, Fernández made his professional debut for Colo-Colo in the Clásico against Universidad de Chile. His first goals came a week later against Cobresal. His memorable strike against O'Higgins propelled him to stardom, earning him the nickname "Matigol." In 2006, he guided Colo-Colo to its 24th league title and was named South American Footballer of the Year.
International Success
