Drea Donna de Matteo, an American actress and Emmy Award winner, was born on January 19, 1972, in Queens, a suburb of New York City, USA. Her mother, Donna, was a teacher, and her father, Albert, was a furniture maker. Both of her parents were Italians and Catholics, so Drea was raised in strictness.

Drea attended Loyola High School and later enrolled in one of the branches of New York University, known as the Tisch School of the Arts. Interestingly, Drea de Matteo initially did not plan to become an actress; she dreamed of becoming a professional director. However, fate had other plans, and in 1999, she was invited to appear in just one episode of the popular TV series "The Sopranos."
