Duje Čop: A Croatian Striker's Journey

Early Career: Rise from Hajduk to Nacional

Duje Čop, a Croatian striker, embarked on his professional football career in 2007 with Hajduk Split. In the 2007/08 season, he made 15 appearances and scored 2 goals. His impressive performance caught the attention of Portuguese side Nacional, who acquired him for the following campaign.

Struggles in Portugal and Return to Hajduk

Čop found limited playing time at Nacional, amassing only 174 minutes on the pitch. However, he managed to score a solitary goal on 24 January 2009 against Sporting CP in a 1-1 draw. Following his underwhelming spell in Portugal, he returned to Hajduk in 2009 and spent two seasons with varying degrees of success.

European Debut and Breakthrough with Split

In July 2011, Čop parted ways with Hajduk and joined HNK Split. It was with Split that he made his European debut in the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds, scoring against Slovenian club Domžale both away and at home.

Dominance with Dinamo Zagreb

In June 2012, Čop transferred to Dinamo Zagreb. His impressive form continued as he scored two crucial goals against Maribor in the UEFA Champions League qualifying phase of the 2012/13 season. During that campaign, he made 6 appearances in the Champions League. A notable highlight of his time at Dinamo was his first career hat-trick in a league match against Rijeka on 18 February 2013. The 2013/14 season saw him crowned as the Croatian First Football League's top scorer.

Move to Cagliari and Personal Life

On 11 January 2015, Čop moved to Italian Serie A club Cagliari. In his partial season of 2014/15, he played 16 matches and scored 4 goals.

Čop's father, Davor Čop, was also a footballer who played for Hajduk for six seasons in the 1970s and 1980s.
