Biography of Dustin Diamond
Early LifeDustin Neil Diamond, an American actor, musician, and comedian, was born on January 7, 1977, in San Jose, California.
Rise to Fame
Dustin gained fame for his role as Samuel "Screech" Powers in the television show "Saved by the Bell," which he played for thirteen years, starting from its inception as "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" (1988-89) and continuing through its final incarnation, "Saved by the Bell: The New Class" (1994-2000).
After "Saved By The Bell"
After the closure of "Saved By The Bell," Dustin participated in various entertainment television projects, including reality shows like "Celebrity Boxing 2," "The Weakest Link," and "Celebrity Fit Club." In April-May 2000, he appeared as a contestant in a celebrity wrestling championship broadcasted on CMT.
Other Projects
Dustin also had roles in several episodic appearances in different projects, including the comedy film "Big Fat Liar," the romantic comedy "Jane White Is Sick & Twisted," and the adventure comedy "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star." Additionally, he released a video film called "Dustin Diamond Teaches Chess," in which he shared tips on becoming a proficient chess player.
Financial Troubles
Dustin faced financial difficulties, including problems with creditors and mortgage payments. In June 2006, he appeared on "The Howard Stern Show" and revealed that he had 30 days to pay off a debt of $250,000, or he would lose his house in Wisconsin. To tackle the issue, Dustin decided to sell t-shirts with the slogan "I Paid $15 to Help Screech Save His House." He estimated that he would need to sell 30,000 shirts to fully repay the debt.
Controversies
Dustin's participation in the fifth season of the reality show "Celebrity Fit Club" was marred by conflicts and tense relationships with other participants. His behavior towards others led to numerous confrontations, notably with Harvey Walden. Additionally, there were allegations that the story of his home being at risk was a publicity stunt.
Legal Troubles
In November 2008, "Ford Motor Credit" filed a lawsuit against Dustin for failing to meet his credit obligations. The court ruled in favor of the company in January 2009. Furthermore, in March 2009, "We Energies" filed a lawsuit against Dustin for failing to pay over $2,000 in gas and electricity bills. The Wisconsin Department of Revenue also issued overdue tax warrants against him, with a total debt of approximately $34,944 in unpaid taxes, penalties, and fines.
Behind the Bell
In July 2008, Dustin signed a contract with "Gotham Books" to write a book about the "sexual escapades, drug use, and hardcore partying" that allegedly occurred during the filming of "Saved By the Bell." The book, titled "Behind the Bell," was released in 2009.
