Duván Zapata: A Rising Star from Colombia
Early Career and DebutDuván Zapata began his footballing journey at América de Cali, the club from his hometown. He made his professional debut in the Copa Mustang in 2008 and scored his first goal against Boyacá Chicó in May 2009. Later that year, he played a crucial role in América de Cali's Clausura triumph.
Loan to Estudiantes
Following the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Zapata was loaned to Argentinian club Estudiantes. He debuted in the Argentine Primera División in September 2011 and scored his first goal for the club against Belgrano. With 5 goals in 11 appearances, Zapata impressed Estudiantes and they exercised their option to acquire his transfer for €1.2 million.
Impressive Stint at Estudiantes
Zapata became a key striker for Estudiantes, scoring 17 goals in 35 matches during the 2012-13 season. His performances attracted interest from West Ham United, but the English club failed to obtain a work permit for him.
Transfer to Napoli
In August 2013, Zapata joined Italian club Napoli. He made his Serie A debut in September against Genoa and scored his first goal for the club in the Champions League against Olympique de Marseille in October.
Loan to Udinese
In the summer of 2015, Zapata was loaned to Udinese. He debuted for the club against Juventus and scored his first goal in a match against Empoli in September.
Permanent Move to Sampdoria
In 2017, Zapata joined Sampdoria on loan with an obligation to buy. He made his debut and scored his first goal for the club in a match against Torino in September.
International Career
Zapata represented Colombia at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, playing in matches against France and Costa Rica. He also scored a goal in the match against Mexico.
