Biography of Alessandro Costacurta
Alessandro Costacurta, an Italian football player (defender) and coach, is currently a football commentator for Italian Sky Sport. He is married to Miss Italy-1991, Martina Colombari, and has a son named Achille. Costacurta was known to his fans as "Billy" because of his slim physique in his youth and his skill in basketball (the local basketball team in Milan, "Olimpia Milan," had a sponsor named "Billy" on their jersey during the late 70s).
Early Career
Alessandro was a product of Milan's youth teams and played for the main club for over twenty seasons. He had a brief loan spell at Monza in Serie C1 during the 1986/87 season. Costacurta was already being called up to the first team during the 1985/86 season but did not make an appearance on the field. Before going on loan to Monza, Costacurta made his debut for "Rossoneri" in the Italian Cup during the 1986/87 season. However, his Serie A debut would come the following year under the guidance of Arrigo Sacchi. On October 25, 1987, Costacurta made his Serie A debut in the match between Verona and Milan, on the 6th match day. Milan won the game 1-0 and also won the Scudetto at the end of the season, but Costacurta was not a regular player that season due to the presence of the more experienced Filippo Galli as a competitor for his position. In his debut season, Costacurta played 7 matches in Serie A and one in the Italian Cup.
